I have been wide open since November 1st. I traveled to Ohio on a Bow hunting trip with a great group of archers. We timed the rut just right and filled the freezer with venison. Since returning home we have had good catches of Trout and Puppy Drum.

I slept in this morning, but after taking a look at the ocean my wife Lisa and I couldn't stand it. We grabbed a few bottled waters and snacks and headed out to enjoy the calm seas and catch a few fish for dinner. We caught fish, did a little filming and had a blast. Fish for dinner again this week...

The ocean finally calmed down today and it made for some fun fishing. I took my crew to the bottom, jigging for flounder. Hunter did light tackle live bait fishing for Spanish. We both had a good catch and we were back to the dock by 10:30 am. Will have some photos of Hunters trip up later.

Jerome, Jason, Jett, Frank and Mr Kim fished inshore and caught a mess for dinner. One Speckled Trout a few Hog fish and Croakers.

Mark, Nicholas, Alex and Christopher Riggins with dinner in hand. No Mackerel strikes but managed to catch a few flounder and a Sea Bass.

The Mackerel bite has slowed due to rough seas and muddy water. We had two strikes and landed one nice Spanish. As the ocean settles and clears up the bite will be on again. Pictured above is Jim, Bob, Nate, Josh, Sam and Emily from Ohio.

On Monday the 11th, Carl, Vinnie and Colt had a lot of fun using light tackle with live bait. We caught seven nice Spanish.

Monday afternoon the 11th, Paul and Pete joined Hunter and me for an afternoon trip. Using light tackle we had several strikes and ended up getting two nice Spanish in the box.

Tuesday morning the seas were a little choppy so we fished around the inlet. Ben, Bailey, Dan and Hal were on board. We started out with a Hammerhead Shark and released it. The Mackerel bite was a little slow but we managed to catch two for dinner.

With a bad forecast we slept in til 7 am. After taking a look at the ocean we packed up and headed out as quickly as possible. The ocean was calm and the fish were feeding. Jim had the catch of the day with a 15 lb King Mackerel. Kerry, Jason and Matthew had their share of fun as well catching a mess of large Spanish Mackerel. We all ate fresh fish for dinner!

Today I split a trip with Captain Jeff Cronk and we had a great group of guys from Maryland. The Spanish were a little finicky, but we managed to catch 19 Mackerel, 2 Spinner Sharks and a Hammerhead Shark between the two boats. Thanks Mike, Russ and Eric for a fun day of fishing and also for the fresh fish for dinner.

On Wednesday the ocean was choppy but we went for it and caught a 17lb King. We hooked up with the first bait in the water. After landing the King we decided that it was a little to rough and headed back to the dock. We fished a total of 15 minutes and were lucky enough to get the catch of the day.. A fun time with Michael Esposito SR and kids Michael, Brandon, Dan, and Robbie.

After a few days of rough seas we headed back out for some Mackerel fishing. We were blessed with nice weather and the fish were feeding. On June 30th Anthony Altobelli and friends Joe, Chris, Andrea, Caitlin and Laura were on board. 15 year old Laura had the catch of the day by landing a 20lb King which hit the first bait in the water.

July 1st Gary and Dale showed up to the dock early and were ready for action. They both traded off catching Mackerel and by 11 had the fish box loaded.

July 2nd I took my wife Lisa and local photographer Brad Styron for some Live Bait Fishing Charters action. We had a blast catching Kings and Spanish. We had two Kings sky on our baits within 15 yards from the boat. Lisa caught a 15 lb King and Brad caught 2 nice Kings as well as several big Spanish each.

After a big weekend getting married and celebrating we took Monday off and did a family and friends fishing trip. Fisher, Hunter, Becca and Will joined me for a near shore fishing trip. We had great time catching one big Spanish and Nine keeper Flounder. Becca showed the boys up by catching the biggest (20 inch) and most flounder.

The Seas were a little choppy and the water was a bit murky on Monday, but we made the best of it. Peggy, Candy, Ben and John were on board and we had a few strikes here and there. We ended the morning with three nice Spanish.

A couple days later on Tuesday the seas calmed and the water cleared up. Ron, Nick, Tom and Bill joined me for one of the best morning bites of the year so far. We Had non stop action and by 9:15 headed back to the dock with twelve big Spanish Mackerel in the box.

The second week in June has always been one of my favorite times for near shore light tackle fishing. The bait is piling up and the fish are feeding hard. I had a morning and an afternoon trip on Wednesday. We were live bait fishing on both trips and had plenty of action.

My morning trip consisted of a father son duo and then a husband/wife team in the afternoon. We caught one King Mackerel, several Spanish Mackerel, some Sharks and ended the day with a Sailfish - ALL within three miles of the beach.

Salute to our Military! Yesterday I had six members of our U.S. Marine Corp on board. We had a great time and the fish were biting. We had a lot of action and put some nice Mackerel in the box. Thank you Katie, Rebecca, Kyle, Katie, Brian and Jay for your service to our country. God Bless You All.

Today Tim, Dan, Mike and Jack Hallagan joined Hunter and me for some live bait fishing. We caught a variety of fish that included 7 Spanish, 1 King, a few Sharks, Blues and Sea Bass. It was an awesome day for some outstanding Father/Son Fishing.

What a great way to start out June fishing in Emerald Isle. Terry Hall and his crew Mike, Buck, Tom and Conner Joined me for a morning adventure. The weather and seas were calm and the fishing was fun. We caught a mess of Sea Bass and a Couple flounder off the bottom and a false Albacore on live bait. June is one of our best fishing months and we have space available.

It was a little choppy yesterday but Ryan, Jackie and I eased out and did some live bait fishing for Kings.

Once we got out there the fishing conditions were nice. We caught 2 Kings a False Albacore and a few throw back fish. It was nice to hear the reels screaming when the Kings hit. Another great day of fishing!!!

Katey, Wade, Kelsey and I headed out to Cape Lookout today after a report that Cobia were in the area.

We worked the area over well with some other boats and only a small one was spotted. We cruised back to the inlet tossed the anchor and caught a few Blues while lite lining a live bait. We had a small Cobia strike but didn't get a hook up. No Cobia in the boat but a Beautiful day on the water at the Cape and fresh Blue fish for dinner.

Donnie, Dustin, Charles and Shane joined me for a flounder trip on Saturday. We worked the AR Reefs and got a couple keepers and a few undersized but overall the Flounder bite was slow. We fed Black Sea Bass at all our stops and will be back in June when it is open season.

I am a few days behind on the fishing report but here we go. We had great weather this weekend for fishing. On Friday Don Hodnett and son Don joined my oldest brother Kennie and I for a Cobia fishing trip off Shackleford Banks. We found a few bait balls but didn't get a Cobia to bite. Don caught a giant Sting Ray and it was a real battle to get him off the bottom.

Brandon and I headed out Thursday for an afternoon cobia trip and quickly put two in the boat. The first one was in a bait ball and the second one was just cruising near the surface. The big one weighed 84 lbs. We were fishing with Cobia squid jigs By Easy Hookers and live bait.

What a GREAT week of fishing it's been in Emerald Isle. Near shore Cobia fishing and offshore Flounder and Grouper fishing is on! I had a trip yesterday with Todd Elmore and Mark Shore. We started out Cobia fishing and had one hook up. We then moved off the beach and started jigging for Flounder and did a little Grouper fishing as well. We put one Flounder and four Grouper in the boat and released several Sea Bass and a monster Stingray. Christopher Abee, Brandon Braxton, Jonathan Casey and Brandon Rouse caught a big 75 lb Cobia on Thursday. If you are looking to get in on the action book your fishing charter today at 910-538-2749.

The weather and fishing has turned on. Don Hodnett from Florida and son Don Hodnett from Ohio joined my brother kennie and myself for some offshore Flounder jigging. We found a couple small areas holding nice size flounder. We ended up keeping 13 and throwing back a handful to grow longer. My friends Randy, Cindy and Brandon were also out today and had a great catch of Cobia. Check out the photos from today.

After a bumpy start in the morning yesterday, the wind and seas laid down and the fishing was on. Spanish were feeding on the beach and a variety of bottom fish were biting in the ten mile range. The water temp. is getting right and the fish are on the move. Flying fish were within four miles from the beach. In the photo below Steve Dominguez is all smiles after a great day of fishing.

Bait Balls and Cobia

I have had a few reports of Cobia being caught around bait balls this past week. So after getting a call that there was a couple bait balls just off the beach, I dropped the boat in and headed out to check them out. Sure enough there were several schools of Menhaden just off the beach. Ben joined me as we tried to pull a Cobia from the area. We didn't see any Cobia but the Blues were eating the bait fish up. We ended up putting on flutter jigs and put a few Blues on ice for to go along with Miss Lisa's famous garden salad for dinner.

The east wind was howling today but we still managed to catch fish. Bob Phillips and son J.R. were hardcore fishermen and we had a great time catching enough Whiting for dinner, Hogfish, Stingrays and a Blue Fish.

Captain Hunter had a fun day of inshore fishing today with Chris Barrow and Scott Benninghoff. We started out bottom fishing for Whiting. We had a good bite in the morning through the rising tide. When the tide switched we moved around the inlet looking for Red Drum and Blues. We found a sandbar with a school of Blues and had a great time casting a 1 oz. floater jig getting strikes every cast.

Offshore fishing and nearshore fishing is picking up as the water temp. continues to climb. Check out the photos of whiting from near shore and Everett and crew with a great offshore catch of Wahoo, 19 Black Fin and a couple Amberjack.
